Join Chair Havana Allwood, student of Dietetics and Nutrition at University of Nottingham and member of the Nottingham Youth Cabinet, as we explore a range of issues within the STEM community related to diversity and engagement with black and minority ethnic communities.
Our panelists will be:
Dr Maria Arruda, Research Development Manager and Chair of the Staff Black and Minority Ethnic Network at University of Nottingham, will provide the keynote talk to open the event
Anita Shervington, Founder of BLASTFEST, a pop-up festival platform that fuses the creative power of Science, Black Arts & Culture, as a force for change
Councillor Leslie Ayoola, Assistant Portfolio Holder for Business Growth and City Centre Management for Nottingham City Council and Co-Founder of Nottingham’s Black Business Network
Dr Mustafa Sarkar, Associate Professor in Sport and Performance Psychology in the School of Science and Technology at Nottingham Trent University
Hasmita Chavda, Head of Programmes and Impact at Business Launchpad and FOSAC trustee
Dr Adekunle Dosumu, Lecturer in Environmental Biology at Nottingham Trent University
Over the course of 90 minutes, we will explore three topic areas:
– Early intervention and community engagement
– Study and work, representation and initiatives for change
– Actions and collaboration for dismantling racist structures
