Words without Sounds: Creative Solutions from Creative Minds at Footprints
15 February, 2024 | 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Free
Using their creativity and innovation learners will consider the real-world problem of non-verbal communication as they design a product or solution of the future.
Participants will be introduced to what is meant by innovation and have an open discussion around STEM and the engineering design process and how this helps people come up with, develop and improve ideas.
Working in small teams, or on their own, learners will use their creativity to design an innovative product that empowers children who live with non-verbal communication to achieve independent communication. Once they’ve completed a design, there will be an opportunity to present their ideas.
This workshop will be supported by the use of:
Worksheets
Colouring Sheets
Badge making
Word-searches
Crosswords
Footprints Conductive Education Centre is a Nottingham-based charity which transforms the lives of children living with mobility and communication difficulties across the East Midlands. At their centre and through their support, babies and children develop the skills they need to thrive and achieve their potential.
Footprints work is inspired by the principles and practices of Conductive Education, a holistic education approach developed to help children with disabilities consciously learn the life skills that come more naturally to others. They work closely with the child and their family in a safe, positive and supportive environment to encourage and motivate each child’s desire to achieve tasks. At the same time, they give families the knowledge, confidence and strength to cope with the disabilities their child lives with.
This event targets children with mobility and communication difficulties and their families and booking is essential.
This event is supported by the Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity’s Community Grants Programme 2024.
